Allison Cole part 2

Soon after Alecia's dad passed away, I asked Allison Cole, the author and illustrator of Never Ending Summer if she did commissions. I wanted to capture a moment that Alecia loves to tell about her and her dad. I thought Allison was perfect for this moment: When Alecia was six years old, her family went to a movie theater. Her sister and her mom went to go see Kramer vs. Kramer. Alecia and her dad went to see Alien. Alecia was so scared throughout the film, she used her dad's handkerchief to "hide" behind it.

We exchanged emails for about 5 months and just a few weeks ago I received the artwork. It's almost entirely done with construction paper. Only the stitches in the handkerchief and the label on the candy bag is done with ink. Alecia and I weren't talking at that time and this got us talking again as well.

This image was just before she had sent it. The only difference is that he has an upset expression with the addition of eyebrows which worked out much better. Check out her amazing work at her website:
